Barton V. O'Malley (1898)

Mr. O'Malley enquired whether the Premier would use his influence to have the federal capital called Barton.
Mr. Kingston looked disgusted, and answered not. The House smiled at the frivolous American.--Essence of Parliament.

"To call the Federal Capital
By classic name of Barton
Is quite the proper thing to do,
Of that I'm sure and sartin."

So screamed the Bird O' Freedom,
And said 'twould he a shame
If his titled leader Charlie
Didn't bring about that same.

But Charlie looked disgusted,
And didn't'seem to heed him,
Which flabbergasted utterly
That Yankee Bird O' Freedom.

The House it smole a quiet smile,
Surprise stole o'er the Yank
At Charlie's base ingratitude,
As on his seat he sank.

The Crumbman he proposes
To call tiie Federal Cap
A name by which,that capital
Would glorify the map.

He would call it Kingomalley,
A name that's resonant,
In honour of that rooster bold,
Who's never known to rant.

To christen Federal Capital
A well-known famous name
Would place that federal city
On the pinnacle of fame.

So all you bold Australians,
In this great tearful valley,
Strive hard and do your level best
To name it Kingomalley.
