Along The Cudgegong (1928) When sunrise paints the landscape
Along the Cudgegong,
And lights the land with beauty,
And wakes to life sweet song
I love to wander lonely
The river banks along.
To muse and dream of absent friends
Who wandered where the river wends,
In days gone by. I see the land of beauty
Outspread before mine eyes,
Whilst o'er the glowing east hills,
The wraith-like clouds arise.
To veil awhile the wonder
Of rainbow-painted skies,
and wake once more the mem'ry folk,
Who sleep beneath the time-worn
cloak of yesteryear. The days that long lay sleeping,
Troop back to me again
As fragrant and refreshing
As drops of summer rain,
And from the mists of yesteryear,
Returns an old refrain,
I hear its haunting music sweet,
And measured tap of dancing feet
across the years. G. F. ALTHOFER. Notes From the Queensland Newspaper The Capricornian 16 Aug 1928 p. 9.
