On the road to Ightham (1937) On the road to Ightham station,
Over salt-bushed miles we came,
To work that no-one wanted,
No other three were game;
But at a railway station
A lady was so mean,
She wanted cash for water-
We didn't have a bean ! This lady wanted money
For hot water, by the way ;
My mate left her the billy,
And calmly walked away.
We went aboard the rattler,
And left the town of Nark,
And now we're out on Ightham
Station, ringing iron-bark. There's work at Ightham station,
Where pleasures are enough,
And though it went a-begging,
It really isn't tough;
So come, you champion ringers,
Whoever you may be;
You won't be charged for water
To make a drop of tea ! "BILL IGHTHAM." Notes From the Queensland Newspaper The Central Queensland Herald 15 Jul 1937 p. 13.
